SELECTION
PROCESS

Applicants can apply by open call or be nominated by the nomination panel.

Open Call:

An open call will also be held in order to widen the reach of the Award and to ensure that applications are received from a wide range of photographers.

Nomination Panel:

6 experienced photography practitioners will each nominate 2 photographers. These photographers will be supported by their respective nominator to develop an application for the Award.

Shortlisting:

Photo:, with the support of the nomination panel, will shortlist 5 open call applications to go forward with the 10 nominated applications. Photo: will make sure that these are names that are not from the nominators’ lists.

Jury Panel:

The Jury Panel is appointed by Photo: and will be announced for every award. It consists of a group of leading curators, photographers, gallerists, journalists, critics, social scientists – who will consider applications.

The Jury Panel will be asked to monitor selections to ensure equal opportunities.

The Jury will consist of 3 members. If the jury requests, the process could include interviews with shortlisted applicants to begin understanding the potential shifts in outcomes that need to be considered in order to make the award process more flexible towards the needs of the prospective winning candidate.

The Jury will deliberate on the shortlisted applications and decide collectively on the selected recipient.

The Jury Panel’s decisions are final. Unfortunately, individual feedback on submissions are not possible.
